The bitcontrol® MPEG-2/4, H.263 video and audio decoder is suited for Windows Media® Player, bitcontrol® Quad Recorder and other players for MS Windows® 98/ME/2K/XP/Vista32/64. Both decoder parts, video and audio, are running as built-in DirectShow® Filter under MS Windows®. The decoder supports DirectX® Video Acceleration, DXVA 1.0 and DXVA 2.0 for Vista 32/64. Therefore, HDTV is playable on Celeron processors <1GHz.

The bitcontrol® MPEG-2/4 decoder is very robust against input failures, like drop outs of the input stream, bit errors and other signal failure. So, the decoder is very suitable for DVB-T, DVB-S and internet streaming applications.

The bitcontrol® Video Decoder distinguish oneself by excellent color brilliance. This is based on 4:2:2 color upsampling and a correct color allocation on decoding for MPEG-2.

The bitcontrol® MPEG-2/4 decoder is capable of real-time decoding of MPEG video bitstreams of most important profiles and levels up to High Levels with 80 Mbps, including 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 chroma formats, e.g. for Main Profile@Main Level. The decoder is compatible with ISO/IEC13818-2 (MPEG-2 video), ITU-T H.263 and ISO/IEC 14496-2 (MPEG-4) standards. Most of the standard requirements are implemented, except minor usual features, e.g. the scalable mode features "Spatial" and "SNR".

The bitcontrol® MPEG-2 Audio Decoder supports the audio formats LPCM and MPEG-1 Layer 1/2. For video files using the AC-3 audio code, audio filters of third parties have to be used.

The bitcontrol® MPEG-2/4 decoder is highly optimized for Intel® MMX-, SSE-, SSE2- or SSE3-equipped and multi-core processors. It runs on all suitable Intel® Pentium® processors greater Pentium® II, 300 MHz and corresponding AMD processors.

The bitcontrol® MPEG-2/4 decoder contains additional useful features for customer applications, like overlay rendering of bitmaps with 7-Bit alpha blending, capturing as JPEG-file, clock rendering etc.

Today the MPEG formats are the most popular standards in consumer video products. It's used in DVD production, in TV production, in digital TV transmission and high quality online video monitoring. There are a lot of companies, which have take part in development of MPEG-2/4 standards. The MPEG LA consortium is representing the interests of all MPEG-2/4 maintainers with more than 550 patents. A small fee is necessary to get the license for legally using MPEG-2/4 technology in consumer products like bitcontrol® MPEG decoder.
