CorePlayer Mobile 1.1 Release date is Monday May 14th, 2007
We have finalized our release for CorePlayer 1.1 for CE, Smartphone, Windows Mobile, Palm, and FINALLY Symbian!!! (all series) for Monday May 14th, 2007.
We will be releasing one platform at a time starting on May 14th starting with various CE versions then Palm and finally the Symbian platforms. Before the Symbian freaks start... I want to state it now that we do not expect to launch Symbian on launch day but will likely wait a few days to see what bug reports are coming in from.
So what are the big changes to 1.1? Its really 2 things...
1 - CoreTheque database... while this might not seems like a big deal to many, for us it is nothing short of a milestone for mobile multimedia and has taken us over 2 years of careful planning and development. CT (as we call it) is much more then 'just' a database. While our initial GUI may not be as 'pretty' as some would like, it is something that (like the platform) will evolve with time and play a major part of our overall plans (mobile and desktop).
What can CoreTheque do? Well i'm gonna tell all the details yet... but note that this is something that has not been done before on a mobile device (at this scale). So...
- Supports tens of thousands of entries? Yes
- Support CUE files? Yes
- Support Web 2.0 tagging for Audio, Video, Pictures? Yes
- Can add web content? Yes
- Can read RSS feeds? Yes
Additionally we have made it so that you insert a media card that it automatically scans the card and prompts you if you want to add the content.
2 - Bug fixes, device support additions and stability... another key factor of this release is as listed.. making the platform more stable and allowing third party input for the requested changes (more bluetooth device support.
Also this will officially be the first release with the skins being enabled. We have made some significant changes on how the skins are loaded (and still have more todo). But you will now begin to see the power of skinning
On future releases... People have comment on why we have taken so long to get to 1.1. That is a good question... and the answer is that we are in our two longest development release cycles (from 1.0 to 1.1 and from 1.2 to 1.3xx). This is because of the massive nature of all the addtions we are adding to the platform. Starting with verion 1.4 we will have 'real-time' releases with the Core Account for users to download.
Q: Just one question - any optimizations or improvements for the CoreAVC component, such as those which appeared with CoreAVC Pro 1.3?
A: At its CORE the changes are the same... but note that 99% of the changes are all directshow and we don't support directshow in CorePlayer (for decoder playback). |
