I have a gps garmin etrex... it has an option called "area calculation", it's very useful, you have to walk the perimeter of any given surface and it gives you the area (in hectareas, meters, etc).
I need to obtain the area of a really big ranch, so I went to 4 points (its a big square) so i want to know if i can use Google Earth to know this area.

Unfortunatly you need Google Earth Pro to use the inbuilt tools (the free version doesnt include area calculation)

I am pretty sure you can us this tho:
http://www.sgrillo.net/ googleearth/gepath.htm
import the GPS data into GE, then export as a .kml file and import that into gepath.
