Kuznetsova Beats Davenport, Reaches First Grand Slam Final
Svetlana Kuznetsova advanced to her first Grand Slam final Friday, coming back to defeat 1998 champion Lindsay Davenport, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4, and putting an end to the American's 22-match winning streak. Kuznetsova, seeded ninth, becomes the first Russian woman to reach the US Open final and the fourth to advance to a Grand Slam singles final this year. She will take on the winner of this afternoon's second semifinal between Jennifer Capriati and French Open runner-up Elena Dementieva. Earlier, third seeds Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor captured the men's doubles title, defeating No. 13 seeds Leander Paes and David Rikl, 6-3, 6-3.
